The Journey to Wellness- Week 1

I’ve made it one week!! I’ve been 99% vegan with a lapse of will power coming only from a homemade mac & cheese bake, a frosted fudgey brownie, and a little bit of 7 layer taco dip (all in one evening). I gotta hand it to cheese– I’ve underestimated how tasty it is. This is why from now on I’m going to start using the phrase “plant based” instead of vegan, because I’m not that good at being vegan.

I have moved on to week 2 of lifting! Lifting heavy is really hard and even though I “only” have 6-7 lifts a day, it takes me a whole hour and two bottles of water to get through, and according to the American College of Sports Medicine, I’m not even that strong.

This week I’ve clocked 4 morning workouts and 2 fitness/ Spinning classes! I’ve got to say I really do like teaching fitness/ Spinnning classes. Sometimes I get nervous before teaching, but I always end up having so much fun! This week in Spinning class I 7 participants, and 6 were new to campus and spinning. I could tell from their faces that they were very tired at the end so I omitted our last set of sprints. However at the end I shouted, “Surprise sprint!” as a joke and their faces were clearly screaming, “NOT OK!” Instead we finished up our hill and did some jumps. Will not try that gag again!

My nutrition has been going strong with easily targeting 1600-1800 calories a day with exercise. Cutting our dairy has done wonders for my skin! Seriously, even when I do break out, they disappear without leaving red marks and it’s been awesome! Current weight: 152

But my biggest accomplishment so far is being able to go to bed at 10-10:30pm every night and wake up between 6am-7am. Not being up til midnight and waking up without feeling so tired I want to vomit feels AMAZING BEYOND BELIEF. This semester I have a little more free time in my schedule than usual, so I want to take advantage of those extra hours and spend them efficiently between school, gym, and work, with more emphasis on gym and less on work than I have in the past. I know it’s only been a week, and the first week of any change is exciting before it gets hard, but it does feel better! (and I know it’s only the first week of school before exams start to really pile on!)

My goal for this semester is to prioritize my overall health INCLUDING SLEEP and nutrition, as well as fitness. I feel this will allow me to be more motivated in school, and then I can squeeze work into my schedule when it fits.

Today is Saturday and my weekend plans currently include:

-baking banana bread, laundry, blogging, making a strawberry-spinach smoothie, organizing my to-do list, and heading out to a friend’s house to work on a project and studying a bit! Getting those Labor Day weekend gains in so I can get my brewery tour on Monday guilt-free!
